Who We Are
The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (OSGG) effectively supports the Governor General in executing constitutional, ceremonial, and state responsibilities while successfully planning and implementing various programs and activities that engage Canadians domestically and internationally. Through initiatives that honor outstanding achievements and promote national identity and Canadian values, the OSGG fosters community participation and public education, welcoming nearly 335,000 visitors annually to historic residences. Additionally, the OSGG administers the Canadian Honours System and oversees the Canadian Heraldic Authority to uphold and recognize the contributions of Canadians. As a publicly funded entity accountable to Parliament, the OSGG demonstrates transparency in its operations and expenditures, maintaining a commitment to serve Canadians while enhancing the role of the Governor General as The Queen's representative in Canada.
